STATEMENT BY MU EAST
MU East is aware of the recent public statement about Miss Universe Eastern, Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil and several MU East franchise partners.
JKN Universe LLC, doing business as the Miss Universe Organization, is owned through an equal 50:50 structure between MU East and MU West through JKN Legacy Inc. MU East did not review or approve the recent statement. It does not represent the agreed position of the 2 owners.
MU East reminds MU West that, under the Hemisphere Agreement, neither side may issue a global public statement or use the Miss Universe Organization letterhead to present a one-sided view as the official position of the Organization without the prior written consent of both sides.
JKN Universe LLC owns the Miss Universe brand. However, under the Hemisphere Agreement, MU East has the exclusive right to operate, promote and develop the brand within 95 Eastern Territories. MU East also has the right to appoint and manage franchise partners within those territories.
MU East, through Legacy Holding Group, S.A. de C.V. of El Salvador, appointed Miss Universe Eastern Pte. Ltd. as its operating company. Miss Universe Eastern works under MU East’s authority and does not claim ownership of the Miss Universe brand.
Under the applicable licensing arrangements, Shareholders Agreement and Hemisphere Agreement, MU East maintains that it has the contractual right to send 6 duly selected and eligible delegates representing Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia and Singapore to the Miss Universe International Pageant.
The Hemisphere Agreement protects eligible delegates selected from MU East’s territories. Their participation should not be blocked, delayed or affected by a disagreement between MU East and MU West.
MU East does not accept that valid agreements made under its territorial rights can be cancelled through a one-sided public statement. Any disagreement must be handled through the proper contractual and legal processes.
MU East will not respond with personal attacks. We will protect the rights of our National Directors, delegates and partners through the correct legal channels.
MU East remains committed to the successful 75th Miss Universe Pageant in Puerto Rico.
