Celebrating Carole Gist, the First African American Woman Crowned Miss USA

From Detroit, Michigan, Carole Gist was the first African American crowned Miss USA in 1990.

Carole went on to represent the USA at the 1990 MISS UNIVERSE® Pageant where she was awarded first runner up.  Carole’s reign and accomplishments have helped pave the way for more women of color to aspire participation in pageantry.
