BLOG: Real Queens Fix Each Others Crowns

Written by Miss Mississippi USA 2017 Ashley Hamby

Hello all, I have missed you!

I have been busy traveling the last week or so, and I came across a quote ,in the airport, that really spoke to me. "Real queens fix each others crowns" This quote resonated with me in so many different ways.

This past weekend I was in Austin, TX with Sherri Hill and The USO for Operation: That's My Dress. The event brings so much joy to many military families and all the volunteers involved.  I was able to find four very special girls their perfect dress. We found Valentines dance dresses, a Spring formal dress, and even a senior prom dress. It was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever been apart of.

When I read this quote, a few days later, I immediately thought about that wonderful day finding the perfect dress for so many young girls. I thought about all of the current Miss USA state title holders that were "fixing" each others crowns as well as the crowns of so many young girls. We were all working together for one incredible cause, and we were helping these young girls find a dress that made them feel special. Special enough to know that they are all worthy of their own crown(s).

I like to think that I have many different crowns (don't we all), but hear me out. In my opinion, crowns usually come with some responsibilities. For instance, I wear a teacher crown when I am teaching in a classroom. My teacher crown comes with the responsibilities of being a role model, a positive influence, a bright light, and a relentless encourager. Oh and the responsibility of molding the minds of children to meet the Common Core State Standards. I also have a coaching crown. This crown has many of the same responsibilities as the teaching one, and it is a crown that I cherish daily. I have a student crown that I wear while I am pursuing my Master's degree in youth counseling. Are you seeing where I am going with this? Sister, brother, daughter, son, mother, father, wife, husband, caretaker, student, etc all of these blessings and responsibilities require a crown! What are some of the crowns you wear? What is your favorite crown? Yes,I have a big, beautiful, sparkly crown that I worked extremely hard for. I am immensely proud of that crown and everything that crown means. I am ecstatic for all of the opportunities that crown will allow me to embark on, including the opportunity to compete for an even more extraordinary crown. BUT, that crown is not my favorite crown. My favorite crown is the crown that I get to wear because I am a daughter of THE KING. We all are and we all get to wear this crown. So,when you are feeling inadequate, unloved, or unworthy ALWAYS remember whose daughter you are. You are HIS daughter. Then straighten YOUR crown(s) and go be amazing!

"You will be a glorious crown in the Lord's hand, and a royal diadem in the palm of your God." Isaiah 62:3

"She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.” Proverbs 4:9

I say all of this to remind you how wonderful and important you are. You are worthy of all of your crowns, and all of your crowns affect the lives of others. So whatever crown(s) you may wear, wear them proudly. AND if you ever see someone else in need:help them, encourage them, lift them and lead them because REAL QUEENS FIX EACH OTHERS CROWNS!!
