Mariangel Villasmil is a psychology student and a certified pastry chef who owns Slainte Cakes, a successful small business in Maracaibo that employs local women.
Her campaign Give a Sweet Smile, delivers birthday cakes to children’s hospitals and nursing homes. Fluent in Spanish and English, she lived abroad for a year in New York City where she got to study with people from all over the world.
After being a victim of a misinformed surgical operation, she has been a firm supporter of the Love Yourself movement, giving conferences to young women on body positivity, entrepreneurship and leadership.
She is an advocate on HIV/AIDS prevention working closely with the NGO “Acción Solidaria” (Action for Solidarity) in rural neighborhoods around Venezuela to promote free testing. A devout flamenco and Cuban salsa dancer, her hobbies also include baking sweet treats to surprise her friends on special occasions.
Mariangel owns a bakery shop that kept running, even during a national power outage that lasted 7 days. Despite every mishap, she committed to fulfilling every order by using a small power generator to keep the ovens running.
Before competing in Miss Venezuela, a complicated surgical operation led her to live an entire year without her right breast. This led her to study psychology and spread the message: Love Yourself.
Because of the pandemic, Mariangel watched herself being crowned as Miss Venezuela on TV at home alone without her family.
