Michelle is currently completing a double major in biology and pre-med with hopes of continuing a career in medicine with a specialty in dermatology. She is also the current president of the International Students Association of her university.
From a very young age, Michelle developed a great passion for serving her community. This desire to help others has made her volunteer with non-profit organizations such as CAP (Pediatric Cancer), Susan G. Komen (Breast Cancer), and Al Samaritan’s Purse International Relief. She has also worked in her local community by collaborating with “Taller Salud” and the Boys and Girls Club in her beloved town of Loíza.
Michelle founded CARE Empowerment Program, an organization that seeks to develop leaders through impactful community projects. Up to this date, CARE has impacted a wide variety of demographics that include children, teenagers, women, and senior citizens from the municipalities of Bayamón, Guánica, Moca, Toa Alta, and Loíza.
Among her most outstanding projects are Gen2Gen; an initiative in which the goal is to establish intergenerational connections with our senior citizens, and Big Sister, a cultural event where gifts and donations are given to “Hogar Forjadores de Esperanza” to bring hope and happiness to those impacted.
Michelle had the opportunity to collaborate with Puerto Rico’s National Guard for six months in different vaccination centers across the island. This involvement allowed her to be part of a great national effort to get more than 70% of Puerto Ricans vaccinated.
Michelle Marie Colón aspires to become an example to the youth in Puerto Rico and dreams of inspiring the new generation to be agents of change, reclaim spaces of visibility and representation, and bring the national spotlight to the island to showcase its diversity, resilience, and unique and beautiful charm.
I am completing a double bachelors degree in pre-medicine and biology and hope to become the first doctor in the family.
One of my favorite words is “empathy”, that’s why I created my foundation C.A.R.E. empowerment program, an organization dedicated to improving women’s access to healthcare, reducing violence in the community, and encouraging economic growth through education and activism.
I enjoy dancing “Bomba”, a traditional African dance, during the sunset at the seashore.
