Marybelen Sakamoto was born in Tokyo, and grew up within two different cultures. Her father is Peruvian and her mother is Japanese. Since her parents encountered many foreign cultures in their lines of work, she had a chance to interact with multinational people in her childhood. From the age of four, she started to enjoy music such as the piano, the clarinet, the contrabass and the electric bass. She was a member of a successful girl’s band in high school and won several auditions which allowed her to perform in two major rock festivals. She learned the importance of persistence and communication through musical activities.

Marybelen is currently working as a teacher in a major nationwide cooking studio in Japan. Students are men and women of all ages, from kids to elders.

She teaches a variety of dishes and techniques, and enjoys educating her students on how to reduce food waste. Through this experience, she decided to advocate the growing issue. She wants to be an ambassador for change by bringing awareness to food waste and how eating smart will not only benefit your personal health, but also the environment.
