Ivana Batchelor is a third year communications student who is proud of her Guatemalan culture. She encourages people to reconnect with their lineage through their music, food, and textiles. She’s passionate about the importance of mental health and works with youth in many public schools to help suicide prevention in her country. Having battled depression and suicidal thoughts herself, she sees great need for public figures to speak out about these problems and to be a role model for these important topics.
She recognizes the need to battle malnutrition and provide equality in education in her country, and therefore one of her greatest dreams is to create a nonprofit organization to provide food and supplies to families in need. In addition, she would like to provide tutoring services at little to no cost and educational scholarships for both remedial education and college programs.
