Carmen Isabel Jaramillo Velarde was born and raised in La Chorrera, Panama. She divides her time to study two careers, journalism at the Universidad of Panama, and psychology at the Latin University of Panama while working as a model.
Taking on the Miss Panama crown in the midst of the pandemic gave Carmen the opportunity to reinvent the social projection strategy in her country. She founded the Connect Your Power movement to establish financial aid and to deliver necessities to low-income communities.
Carmen collaborates with many social causes such as: PROBIDISIDA, AID FOR AIDS Panama, Club Activo 20-30, Teleton 20-30, the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Republic of Panama, HIV prevention and Smile Train.
She is also an ally for the indigenous community and partners with the SOS Abinos foundation to provide cancer screenings for people from the Kuna Yala Shire suffering from albinism. Carmen is deeply committed to her journalistic work and devotes herself to investigating the social problems of her country and the universe.
Carmen is the first member of her family to get into college.
Carmen rescued over 400 street animals and has had more than 50 dogs at the same time.
As a journalism student, she had the opportunity to speak with a leader from the most dangerous gang in the world, in what is now considered the most dangerous neighborhood in the world.
