Raised in the Golden Isles, a coastal area of Georgia, Alyssa is a 22-year-old University of Georgia student studying health and physical education. She graduated in the Top 5 percent of her high school class and was on the Dean’s List honors in college.
After completing her college degree, Alyssa aspires to be a successful female entrepreneur by opening a dance and fitness studio. She is also the Regional Director for Fusion National Dance Competition with plans to continue furthering her career with this Organization.
To amplify her efforts, Alyssa created the #RiseUp: Impact Through the Arts Initiative and Scholarship Program four years ago to increase awareness about the importance the arts can have on individuals and communities, while also sharing her passion and abilities with lower-income and differently abled students that may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the arts. In her spare time, Alyssa loves taking her four dogs on adventures, especially when they get to go to the beach.
I am partially deaf in my right ear. Due to this fact, I visit my audiologist every six months to monitor the progression of my hearing loss. A surgery to remedy this may be in my future, but I am positive that no matter what the future holds regarding this impairment, I will stay focused on my goals.
I have been recognized on the Georgia House Floor and addressed the Legislature about my #RiseUp Initiative. This gave me the opportunity to speak directly with influencers in my state about establishing a stronger future for arts education in schools throughout Georgia.
I was an Optional Level 9 Gymnast with hopes of competing on a collegiate level. Although an injury disrupted that goal, I re-focused my energy on teaching others to reach new levels of excellence through dance and gymnastics.
