25-year-old CBS hoops reporter Allie LaForce is turning heads for all the right reasons

Female journalists in the male-dominated sports industry battle for the next story and against the perception that the way to move up is through looks. Allie LaForce pays no attention to that stuff.

“I’m not really affected when people say you’re just a pretty face,” she said. “It’s insulting, but women have come a long way and it’s our job to make sure women continue to grow and gain respect in this business.

“I know that I played basketball, I know the sport, I know that I have the credentials and have worked hard to be where I am and that’s all I need. If some person on Twitter that has two followers is telling me that I don’t know what I’m talking about, that means nothing to me. My bosses, what they tell me, and what my mentors tell me, that’s the stuff that matters. You just have to have enough confidence to know that you belong on this stage and are doing a good job.”

And LaForce, 25, is doing just that. Hired by CBS almost two years ago, she’s worked her way up to covering this year’s NCAA tournament on the sideline with one of the network’s top broadcast teams in Verne Lundquist and Bill Raftery. She’s provided viewers with unique insight and stories. During a second round game in Buffalo between St. Joseph’s and UConn, LaForce scored an adorable interview with internet sensation Philip Martelli, the 4-year-old grandson of Hawks’ coach Phil Martelli. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/03/cbs-hoops-reporter-allie-laforce

LATIN POP BAND CAMILA JOINS THE 2014 MISS USA® COMPETITION MUSICAL LINEUP SUNDAY, JUNE 8 ON NBC (8-11 P.M. ET)

NEW YORK, NY — June 4, 2014 — The Miss Universe Organization announces Latin pop band Camila will join the musical lineup for the 63rd annual MISS USA® Competition on Sunday, June 8 (8-11 p.m. ET) from The Baton Rouge River Center in Baton Rouge, La. Immediately following the international release of their new album, ELYPSE, the band will take the MISS USA stage for their first official public performance since the record’s launch on Wednesday, June 3. Camila’s set will be added to Sunday’s musical roster along with Florida Georgia Line and special guest Nelly, Marc Broussard, and The Dirty Dozen Brass Bands. Giuliana Rancic, co-anchor of “E! News,” and Thomas Roberts, MSNBC’s “Way Too Early” will host the competition.

Soaring to the top of the charts in Mexico and beyond, award-winning composer, singer and producer Mario Domm created the leading Latin pop-rock band Camila in 2005 with guitarist Pablo Hurtado. Their two metric hit albums, Todo Cambió and Diamond certified Dejarte de amar, turned the group into one of the most successful Latin American bands of all time selling more than two million copies. Songs such as “Abrázame,” “Mientes,” and “Alejate de mi,” among others, have made them big winners in the industry. The album’s popularity brought them to win three Latin Grammy Awards and three Latin Billboard Awards coining them as one of the most awarded groups from Latin America for the last decade.

Their third studio album ELYPSE marks a new chapter of success for Camila with the new hit single, “Decidiste dejarme.” The MISS USA telecast on NBC will be the first English speaking network the duo performs on marking a crossover for them domestically in the US.

This year, fans will have the opportunity to save their favorite contestant during the evening gown competition through a Twitter save in order to secure a sixth spot in the final question round. Viewers can tweet using #SaveTheQueen along with a keyword that will be provided on the screen during the live telecast. Rules and information can be found on http://www.missusa.com/rules.
