As a publicist, journalist, and television personality BJ Coleman has established himself as a contemporary authoritative figure on entertainment and fashion. BJ got an early start in entertainment when, at age 15, he filled the post of posse member on BET's popular teen talk show Teen Summit with host Ananda Lewis, interviewing such personalities as Hilary Clinton, Method Man and LL Cool J. In 1998, Coleman enrolled in Boston College in Newton, MA where he furthered his education, earning a BA in communications in 2002. After a string of positions with Maury Povich, CNN, and Queen Latifah, by his senior year, BJ was hired as the personal assistant to Baby Phat creative director Kimora Lee Simmons. It would not be long before BJ would find himself in the tightly guarded circles of Brittany Murphy & Ashton Kutcher. Working with Murphy to promote hit films such as 8 Mile and Just Married, BJ found himself escorting the Hollywood power couple on European getaways, shopping with them on the streets of Amsterdam and gambling with them in the palaces of Las Vegas. In 2003, Coleman became a trusted fixture on the walls of NC Connect (Naomi Campbell's Marketing and PR Firm) where he served as PR Account Executive and Celebrity Wrangler, handling and assisting the firm’s heavyweight accounts, including Dolce & Gabbana, Alicia Keys, Carlos Miele, and New York’s exquisite hot spot PM lounge. From 2004 - 2008 BJ's expertise was a vital part of the Phat Fashions empire, serving as Senior Director of Marketing & Public Relations, where he built and developed an in-house PR division for the legendary hip-hop fashion house. In 2008, BJ became the Vice President of Entertainment & Talent for 5W Public Relations, a NYC-based PR agency where BJ represented such stars as Malinda Williams, Ray J, D-Nice, hairstylist Ted Gibson & rap star Trina. BJ has placed himself as one of New York City's premier faces. It is not uncommon to find him on the social pages of Gotham, Vibe and Uptown magazines. In 2005 and 2006, BJ was among those listed on Vanity Fair Editor George Wayne’s annual Hot Downtown 100 list and Hamptons magazine named him as one of the hottest singles on the South Fork. Later that year, BJ launched his weekly column for Metro Newspaper called Invite Only, a zeitgeist of New York City's most exclusive events. BJ's experience has made him a television favorite, having commentated as an expert for various programs and networks including The Tyra Banks Show, VH1, BET, E!, and serving as preliminary judge for the Miss USA pageant in 2010 and 2011. In 2008, BJ switched to magazine reporting, writing a column for Hip Hop Weekly entitled In The Know with BJ Coleman; an insider's look at some of hip-hop’s most lavish events. BJ Coleman resides in New York City and is the president and CEO of Coleman entertainment Group, an entertainment and fashion-based public relations, marketing, and management firm. Currently, BJ’s work at Phat Fashions can be seen on the Style Networks’ hit reality show Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane.
