I've been hearing many rumors going around about how many ladies will be the lucky one to be part of the semifinalists. First I heard that there was going to be a top 20 since this year more than 80 contestants are expected. On the other hand I've also heard that there would be a top 10, so that the audience will have a greater change to familiarize and identify themselves with the semifinalists. I think howevert that the number of semifinalist should be kept at 15. I mean this year more than 80 girls will be compeating, so to have a mere top 10 would be extremelly unfair. Now, a top 20 on the opposite side would be a little too excessive, besides back in 2006 there was a top 20 and (im sorry to say this) the MUO screwed up and half the semifinalists that year were a nightmare. Well, i can only hope for the MUO to make the right desicion and keep the number of semifinalists to 15. What do u guys think?? should the number of semifinalist should be kept at 15, should it be increased to an exorbitant top 20, or should it be reduced to a top 10???

That is a very good question...top 20??? or top 15????Hummmmmmm! Definately not a top 10.....My only concern is that alot of beautiful girls from countries that never make it to the finals will be left out again, only to let the usuals in, like Venezuela, Puerto Rico, U.S.A...ect...granite, this years Miss Puerto Rico is bomb!
I think it is frustrating to see that deserving countries are left out of the finals year after year, due to "The Sash Factor" as it is known in the pageant world...pretty unfair. For instance, this year there are yet more gorgeous girls than the year before, as is the case every year this pageant comes around; and we all know that most of the favorites will not make it to finals, not because they weren't deserving, but because that's how the organization is decides it. It's boring to see Miss Venezuela enter the finals simply cause she is from Venezuela...wether she is deserving ot not...she gets in every year, and a true deserving candidate is left out. Sad! Thsi year Venezuela is ok...but there are so many girls to choose from, and we all know that Venezuela will some how make it in..so unfair, and predictible. Yawn!!!! Give us something exciting this year....let other deserving countries in this year Miss Universe Organization! Leave the Robotic, Plastic Miss Venezuela out this year...and give us something different to look at this year........
Countries like Mauritius, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Belgium, China, Indonesia, Egypt, France, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Guam, Northern Marianas, ect...deserve a second glance.....make me wonder, why they keep participating, when they never are allowed to make it ti finals...?!...just an observation.....year after year this pageant becomes so predictible....make pageant goers like me believe again....I will begin to lose interest..if things don't change around abit....one thing about Miss World that I feel Miss Universe should take into consideration is.....they allow different countires into their finals..hence, they have up to 120 contestants every year, and Miss Universe barely enrolles 80......something to think about..... -

I like a top 20, the reason is to give but opportunity to other espectativas to contestants and but towards people, an example was in the 2006, to all patches to the TV have to know that be those of top 20 and memory completes that it was Mexico and because it was of emotion when they appointed her, but top 20 is better, but diverdidad and but opportunity for the judges to choose to the best one is my commet.

Miss Universe 2009 should have Top 20. Why? because there are lots of beautiful women that will join this competition and maybe more deserving. I hope I can see new women because for the past pageants I see the same countries. I hope our country's representative (PAMELA BIANCA MANALO, MISS PHILIPPINES) will take home the title and the crown. hahaha.
I hope this year's competition will be just like other past years that Top 10 are showcasing their beauty both in swimsuits and evening gowns but i think it would be better if there are 20 semifinalists. After the Top 20 elimination, The Top 10 will enter to an interview by picking their judge, the more beautiful the interview, the more chances to reach the Top 5. In the Top 5, candidates will answer the question came from the other candidates maybe from her co-finalists or from the other delegates.
As a conclusion, all the girls should be competitive & confident to show their beauty in Universe no matter what type or kind the competition and number of semifinalists will be.

First, I didn´t believe on the rumors about a top 10 again... but the MUO sent a press release some days ago with the official host and hostess of the 2009 MU pageant. At the PRNews release, they talk about 15 semifinalists... but now, checking this official MU website, they did published the same release but they edited the "semifinalists" part... Did you check it?? So, it seems they want to cut the number of semifinalists to 10 again...
It is not fair, and I hope they reconsider it and continue with the top 15. I liked the format they had from 2003 to 2008 and I hope they will keep it. I see totally UNFAIR if they return to the top 10 and the MUO still choses 5 of them... Besides that, many countries have been quitting the pageant because of the high fees (example Namibia) and having a top 10, it would be less possibilities to a country to make the finals, so many of them will withdraw from the pageant in the following years...
They won´t pay higher rates if they see there are less possibilities to make it...
Remember, when the pageant changed the format from 12 to 10 in 1984, in the following years there were less countries competing...
Many want to have again a top 20, but as I understand, the telecast in 2006 let it to be that way because they didn´t show a lot of LA and they have enough time to show 20 contestants instead of 15. But as time in TV is very expensive and they HAVE to show about Bahamas as much as they can, it is not possible to have a top 20 again...
I hope the MUO read this and keep the format to 15 semifinalists! -

VENEZUELLA#!....
1st of all...I happen to like HATERADE...(love the taste...so sweet....), and secondly, I have never denied that Venezuela has gorgeous women..why wouldn't it??? I mean there are so many people from OTHER countries that mix in the population that make that beautiful blend. ...no denying it. I also wanted to address your questioning "why are U on this blog, if your so bored" statement...I never said I was bored and had nothing to do... I just expressed that I was bored of seeing the same countries year after year make it into the finals simply because of the it falls into routine. U have to admit...Venezuela doesn't always deserve to get in...Be honest with yourself...I mean, truely...when Ana Karina Anez, and Jitzad Vina where excluded from the TOP Spots... that was like a breath of fresh air....I am just looking forward to see some real competion this year and to see the real deserving girls make it in. The new girl representing Venezuela is ok....average....but because there is so much material this year, she doesn't stand a chance, if the judging is fair this year. Countires like HUNGARY, CZECH REP., DOMINICAN REP. MEXICO, VIETNAM,AUSTRALIA, MAURITIUS,ETHIOPIA,ZAMBIA,INDONESIA.....all fiece..and deserve to not lose a spot to Venezuela....Dayana Mendoza is indeed a deserving Miss Universe. So loosen up....don't get so uptight...i am just excersizing my "Freedom of Speech"...Do U know what that means in your country?? -

ok maybe a top 20 its a good idea, but what i didnt like about the top 20 back in 2006 was that the MUO decided to give a chance to girls that didnt deserved to be semifinalists at all, leaving beautiful girls behind. Like Miss Hungary, Miss Russia, Miss Ethiopia, MIss Thailand, Miss Argentina made the top 20??? give me a freaking break. On top of that horrible top 20 many gorgeous girls were left behind such as Serbia and Montenegro, Belgium, Australia, and Spain. MUO if there by any chance is a top 20 this year please make the right decisions.
