Central Park & the UJA Benefit

posted by Kristen Dalton at 12:18pm on 06/11/2009

Saludos a todos! I have had another fantastic week full of wonderful people and opportunities! I am a little lonely this week though because my sisters (aka Dayana & Stevi) are traveling so I am all alone in the apartment, I can't wait for them to come back! :-)

Saturday, I participated in the YAI Central Park Challenge, which was a blast! YAI is the national institute for people with medical and developmental disabilities and the funds raised at the walk went to support YAI's programs which service over 20,000 people. That has to be my absolute favorite event so far since I have been in New York! It felt so good to be able to mingle with families and play with the children. There was so much positive energy and joy among the thousands of people who joined there, especially among the adorable children with developmental disabilities. They had the most zest and love for life out of anybody, which was incredibly inspiring. The event brought out a variety of thousands of people, who were all either running, walking, or cheering their children on in the kids challenge.     Later on in the week, I enjoyed a speech class with my teacher Joanne (who is also very knowledgeable on a plethora of topics). We have great conversation while we work. I have been continuing to train hard for Miss Universe, and Tuesday night I attended the Leadership Awards Banquet hosted by UJA Federation of New York. The Banquet honored NBC President, Jeff Zucker and Hulu LLC founder and President, Jason Kilar. Kathy Griffin and Jimmy Fallon performed and had the crowd erupting in laughter, they were hysterical! I was so star struck by my favorite TV stars…I didn't know what to do with myself. Stephanie March and B.D. Wong are two of my favorite actors on my most beloved TV show of all time, “Law and Order: SVU”. I was speechless when they both walked past me, I had to take time to regain my composure to actually go up and meet them, ahh!! They were SO nice though, and let me take pictures with them!    Recently, I have been volunteering with Gilda's Club New York and helping them to fundraise for their new campaign, "It's Always Something." It's always a good time spending time there.   I hope everyone had a great week!   Quote of the Week: Hugs can do great amounts of good, especially for children. -Princess Diana   Warmly, Kristen
