Dancing into February!

What a fun week I have had! This week included a variety of events and activities, but my absolute favorite was going back to salsa work at my beloved Baila Society. It felt so amazing to get back on the dance floor and to slip in my salsa dance shoes and to feel the music with my dance partner again. Ahtoy, who you have seen in my salsa videos, is choreographing a dance for me which incorporates a lot of body roll movement and spin techniques, which I will definitely have to work on. I also realized that I need to get my cardio fitness back up to par because salsa will make you SO out of breath if you are not in shape, or even if you are!
Tuesday morning, I got up at 6 am to learn how to waltz before I visited the morning show at Fox5, Good Day New York. I am learning the dance for the Viennese Opera Ball that I am attending this evening which will raise money for the UN's Haiti Relief efforts. I am nervous because I have to lead the debutante group by waltzing out onto the dance floor. That is why I had rehearsal and I have it before the ball again tonight! I don't really know when I'll have time to get ready.
Thursday, I visited West Point Military Academy. I didn't really know what to expect other than the fact that cadets would be dressed in uniform, which I was pretty excited about. When we arrived, our tour guide, Chris, taught us so much about the school. It not only focuses on a military and academic education, it also places a huge emphasis on character and leadership development. They ensure that their cadets will make good choices, even when no one else is looking because that is what makes a good leader and someone with good character. I love this philosophy and I wish it was emphasized more in public schools, I think it would make a huge difference in the quality of our society. All of the cadets are so disciplined, well mannered, ambitious and educated which makes me really look forward to the fact that my escort at the Viennese Ball is a West Point Honor Guard Cadet, wooohoo!!
I hope you all have a spectacular week and that you are all remembering the people of Haiti every day.
