Emilee Mahar is a high school junior who currently is a part time lifeguard at a local pool in her neighborhood. When she isn't at work you can find her tumbling and flying on her Varsity Soccer, Varsity Basketball, and her North Dakota State Champion Varsity Cheerleading Squad. You can also find her wake-boarding during the summer and snowboarding during the winter!
Recently, when a devastating flood struck in her hometown, Emilee was quick to volunteer by placing sandbags and cooking food for all of the hungry volunteers. Emilee also solely raised over $300 for the local Ronald McDonald house as well as spent her whole paycheck so she could make Halloween goody baskets for the local hospitals that had children inpatient who could not go trick-or-treating that night. Emilee has also taken involvement in many runway shows, modeling for designers such as Sherri Hill, Jovani, and Downtown Diva. Emilee combined her love for modeling and community service, by flying to Fort Hood Texas for the Sherri Hill USO Operation: That`s my Dress! At this event she helped military teens pick out their perfect prom dress to take home with them.
Because of Emilee`s personal experience of losing a dearly loved friend to suicide in early August of 2011, she attends many fundraisers throughout her state for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, including the 5th annual Out of the Darkness community walk where she helped raise almost $50,000 for suicide prevention last year, and this year hoping to raise over $80,000! She also spoke at the second annual “Ride to Silence the Stigma” event sharing her story and how she found hope. Emilee was honored to be invited to serve on the North Dakota Chapter Board for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
