BIO

Shawn McClain currently serves as the Business Development Director for the Miss Universe Organization. Shawn works to secure and manage host site agreements for domestic and international broadcasts, in addition to revenue streams from corporate sponsorships, endorsements, licensing arrangements and franchisees. Shawn heads most of the company's Spanish language negotiations and travels frequently, representing the organization across the globe. Advising foreign and domestic tourism offices and consumer product companies on holistic advertising strategies, Shawn is a key member of the MUO team responsible for securing some of the company's largest agreements. Shawn is also extremely passionate about the Same Sky Trade Initiative, a social enterprise business with operations in Rwanda. Same Sky offers female victims of the Rwandan genocide a "hand-up" not a "hand-out" by teaching sustainable skills and offering employment, contributing greatly to their personal livelihood and to the global women empowerment movement. Shawn works to support the growth and direction of the brand throughout Rwanda and the world and was named Brand Ambassador of the Month in October 2011.

While living and studying in Spain, Shawn perfected his Spanish speaking skills and worked in Market Research for the Commerce Office branch of the U.S. Embassy in Madrid. There, he advised American businesses seeking to invest in Spanish markets, with a focus on the field of desalination. Shawn also worked for the New York State Attorney General's Office in the Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau, a part of the Economic Justice Division. Upon graduating with honors and a dual Political Science and Spanish degree from Marist College, Shawn entered Operations and Field Management at Maloney Commodity Services in Stamford, CT, a firm that specializes in risk reduction with physical commodities and structured trade finance, where he worked until early 2007.

Shawn currently lives in New York and studies marketing at Columbia University to further his knowledge of the global marketplace, including its attributes, pitfalls and emerging trends. He enjoys cooking, reading, travel, foreign films and thoroughly appreciates good customer service.
